Pay, RPS-2022 & Allowances

Pay fixation decides an employee's monthly earnings for years to come, so small errors have long-lasting effects. This section explains the structure of pay, the rules used for fixation and how allowances are computed on the fixed pay.

Always verify the latest Government Order / official notification before taking action.

Practical examples

Worked through in the order an office would actually handle the case.

Annual increment — how it is worked out

  1. 1Identify the employee's present basic pay and the pay scale attached to the post.
  2. 2Confirm the Date of Next Increment recorded in the Service Register.
  3. 3Confirm that the employee has completed the qualifying service required for the increment.
  4. 4Move the basic pay to the next stage of the same pay scale on the DNI.
  5. 5Recompute DA, HRA and other pay-linked allowances on the revised basic pay.
  6. 6Record the increment certificate and update the Service Register.

Pay fixation on promotion (option-based)

  1. 1Note the pre-promotion basic pay and the promoted post's pay scale.
  2. 2Compute fixation with immediate effect from the date of promotion.
  3. 3Compute the alternative fixation from the date of next increment in the lower post.
  4. 4Compare both results over the following twelve months.
  5. 5The employee exercises the available option in writing within the prescribed period.
  6. 6Fixation statement is prepared, checked and forwarded for audit/authorisation.
